I suppose it depends on the size of your Christmas tree. You may WANT an ornament that measures 5 inches in diameter. It's not really all that huge. I have several mercury glass ornaments which are that size. It is really personal preference. Use a smaller hook size to change your snowflake size, not a problem. It is an easy pattern to work up and looks quite festive.

Are these holly berry red crochet snowflakes too cute? I admit, when I think of snowflakes, I think white. What a wonderful idea to make them as "holly berries". If any of your Christmas decor is red, this will fit right in.

Thank you for the heads up on the selection of crochet hooks, JaneEK. I always attempt to use the recommended materials when I start a project but my gage is always "not quite right". Because so far it has never really mattered, I just do not worry about it, but I want to have an ornament that will look great on the tree.

This is a nice project but if you work it with the recommended H size hook, its going to be pretty big for a Christmas tree ornament. It clocks in at around five inches in diameter, so Im going to work one up with an F size hook to see how that compares. I may need to change yarn size if that doesnt work since I dont really want the snowflake much larger than four inches.
