Crochet Tunisian Extended Stitch Tutorial + Video

Learn a new skill with this easy Tunisian crochet extended stitch tutorial!

Tunisian crochet or afghan crochet, is a form of crochet that often mimics knitted fabric. It can be used to make anything from wearables, to home decor and even amigurumi. Depending on the stitch, yarn weight and hook size, the fabric made can be lacey or thick dense fabric. Tunisian crochet is believed to have become popular in the early 1800s and it has grown in popularity in recent years, again.

Tunisian crochet is most commonly worked with either a long crochet hook that has a stopper at one end, a crochet hook with a cord or a double ended crochet hook. The work is not turned with tunisian crochet, instead a forward pass is worked from right to left and then a return pass is worked from left to right.

The Tunisian Crochet Extended Stitch is a variation on most of the basic tunisian crochet stitches. This variation makes these stitches taller. The tunisian knit stitch and the tunisian simple stitch are the most commonly used and each of these stitches create a different texture. The samples in the photos have been worked in the tunisian knit extended stitch.
