Useful Cross Stitch Scarf

Crochet Gauge2 pattern repeats = 4 (10 cm); 8 rows = 4 (10 cm) in pattern. Note: One pattern repeat consists of one shell and one single crochet.

Finished SizeScarf measures 8 x 60 (20.5 x 152.5 cm)

Materials:

  • RED HEART Soft: 2 balls each 4614 Black A and 9440 Light Grey Heather B
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook: 5mm [H-8 US]
  • Yarn needle

 

Special Stitches

  • Cross-st (cross-stitch) = Skip next sc, dc in space between skipped sc and next shell, ch 1, working over dc just made, dc in space between shell previously made and skipped sc.
  • Shell = 5 dc in indicated stitch or space.


Note: To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color. Cut old color.

 

Pattern

  1. With A, ch 32.
  2. Row 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *skip next 2 ch, shell in next ch, skip next 2 ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across; change to B, turn5 shells and 6 sc.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in first sc, ch 1, sc in center dc of next shell, *ch 1, cross-st, ch 1, sc in center dc of next shell; repeat from * to last sc, ch 1, 2 dc in last sc, turn4 cross-sts, 4 dc, and 5 sc. 
  4. Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in first dc, skip next dc, sc in next sc, *shell in ch-1 space of next crossst, sc in next sc; repeat from * to last 2 st, skip next dc, 3 dc in top of beginning ch-3; change to A, turn4 shells, 6 dc, and 5 sc.
  5. Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first dc, ch 1, skip next 2 dc, cross-st, *ch 1, sc in center st of next shell, ch 1, cross-st; repeat from * to last 3 dc, ch 1, skip next 2 dc, sc in top of beginning ch-3, turn5 cross-sts and 6 sc.
  6. Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *shell in ch-1 space of next cross-st, sc in next sc; repeat from * across; change to B, turn5 shells and 6 sc.
  7. Row 6: Ch 3, dc in first sc, ch 1, sc in center dc of next shell, *ch 1, cross-st, ch 1, sc in center dc of next shell; repeat from * to last  sc, ch 1, 2 dc in last sc, turn4 cross-sts, 4 dc, and 5 sc.
  8. Row 7: Ch 3, 2 dc in first dc, skip next dc, sc in next sc, *shell in ch-1 space of next crossst, sc in next sc; repeat from * to last 2 st, skip next dc, 3 dc in top of beginning ch-3; change to A, turn4 shells, 6 dc, and 5 sc. 
  9. Rows 8-115: Repeat Rows 4-7 twenty-seven times.
  10. Rows 116 and 117: Repeat Rows 4 and 5. Fasten off.
  11. Row 118: With right side facing, join B with slip st in first sc, ch 3, dc in same st as join, ch 1, sc in center dc of next shell, *ch 1, skip next sc, dc in space between skipped sc and next shell, working over dc just made, dc in space between shell previously made and skipped sc, ch 1, sc in center dc of next shell;  repeat from * to last sc, ch 1, 2 dc in last sc. Fasten off.
  12. Finishing: Weave in ends.
