BONUS! How to Block a Crochet Scarf
Now that you're done with your work, you're probably wondering how to care for your crochet project. Should you wash it? How? Well, for the most part, unless your yarn labels specifically say hand wash, you should be able to machine wash your work to clean it. But before you go about wearing your new design, you'll want to block your work to make sure it isn't curling or uneven. You can either wet block, cold block or dry block, and you can find specific information at our tutorial on how to block a crochet pattern, but the basics are the same:
- For wash blocking only, wash your project first.
- Spread out your project either on a bed, some towels, a rug or a blocking board.
- Work around the project and, using rust-proof pins, pin your project in place.
- Make sure the pinned project reflects how you want your work to end up looking: keep your edges straight!
- If wash blocking, let dry completely. If dry blocking, use a steamer or iron around your work to relax and set your work. If cold blocking, mist your project with a spray bottle until your work is wet.
