Crochet Hook4.5 mm hook, H/8 or 5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

MATERIALS

  • Caron International's Simply Soft Party (99% Acrylic/1% Polyester, 164 yd/150m, 3 oz/85g): 2 1/2 oz (A), 2 1/2 oz (B):
    • #0007 Black Sparkle (A)
    • #0002 Fuchsia Sparkle (B)
  • One size US H-8 (5mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge
  • One size US G-7 (4.5mm) crochet hook (for ties only)
  • Yarn needle

GAUGE
In pattern, Collar measures about 4 x 17"/10 x 43cm (before blocking).

STITCHES USED
Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st)

SPECIAL STITCH
PSt: Paris Stitch—(2 dc, ch 2, sc) in indicated stitch or space.

NOTE
The A-colored collar is worked first. The ruffle is then worked across one short side edge and one long edge only.
 

NECK WRAP
Collar
With larger hook and A, ch 49.
Row 1 (RS): (Dc, ch 2, sc) in 4th ch from hook (first PSt made), *sk next 2 ch, (2 dc, ch 2, sc) in next ch (Pst made); repeat from * across, turn—16 Psts.
Row 2: Ch 3, (dc, ch 2, sc) in first ch-2 sp, Pst in each ch-2 sp across, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures about 4"/10cm from beginning, end with a WS row. Fasten off.

Edging Round (RS): With larger hook and RS facing, turn piece so foundation ch is at top; working across opposite side of foundation ch, join B with sl st in first ch, ch 1, 3 sc in same ch, sc in each ch across to last ch, 3 sc in last ch; working in ends of rows, sc evenly spaced across side edge; 3 sc in first st of last row of piece, sc in each dc (sk the sc and ch-2 sps) across to last dc, 3 sc in last dc; working in ends of rows, sc evenly spaced across side edge; join with sl st in first sc, turn. Do not fasten off.

Ruffle
Note: In next row, work across one side edge and one long edge only.
Row 1 (begin ruffle): Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc across side edge and following long edge (do not work across the other side edge and long edge), turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, dc in each sc across, turn.
Rows 3 and 4: Ch 2, 2 dc in each dc across, turn.
Fasten off.

Side Edging: Join A with sl st in first st of Row 4 (at top of ruffle), to work across unworked side edge; working in ends of rows, ch 1, sc in end of first row, [ch 3, sc in end of next row] 4 times; working in sts of Round 1, *ch 3, sc in next sc; repeat from * across to end of side edge. Fasten off.

 

TIES (make 4)
With smaller hook and B, ch 41.
Row 1: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across—40 sl sts. Fasten off.

 

FINISHING
With RS facing, sew one tie to straight side edge of wrap (side edge without ruffle), 3/4"/2cm from top. Sew another tie 2 1/2"/6.5cm below first tie. Sew remaining two ties to other side edge (with ruffle) opposite the first 2 ties (sew these ties to the edge of the collar, not to the edge of the ruffle). Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. Block collar section, to finished measurements, if desired.
