Best Yarn for Amigurumi

Types other than worsted weight yarn made of acrylic or cotton can stretch, making it hard to maintain the proper tension as you navigate the sometimes tricky patterns.

Wool yarn can work well for amigurumi patterns, but it isn't recommended. This yarn is often too expensive for these types of projects that either sit on a shelf and see little to no wear and tear or, conversely, are put through the wringer when they become your kiddo's new best buddy. Plus, if you're crocheting a cuddle buddy, the yarn can be itchy.

It is also important to note that smaller crochet hooks are better tools for amigurumi projects, as well. These smaller hooks help you perfect little details.
