Granny Square
Granny square crochet patterns are the most common pattern done by people world- wide. They are simple to follow and just simple color changes can change the entire look of a square. You'll find many free crochet patterns that use the granny square. Squares can be extremely simple and others can be extremely challenging. It is amazing what two different types of squares in a blanket of mutiple colors can make it appear you are using 10 - 20 types of patterns. The granny square goes in a rotation and not back and forth.
Pros & Cons
- Technically easy once you understand the principal of the square.
- You can do really simple ones but find more complex patterns. You can mix and match but be sure if you are mixing patterns to ensure your squares are the same size or denominations of the largest square if making smaller.
- Beginners can follow this and be successful with a bit of patience and understanding of the stitch principals.

The first time i learned how to make granny squares, i couldn't make the magic ring well, and then later the squares didn't turn out like real squares. It turns out i was using the wrong yarn weight, and yarn type and granny squares look amazing when you change the yarn color. Two months later i made my first granny square throw.
