PLUS! History of Tunisian Crochet
Tunisian crochet is also known as Afghan crochet, and it's worked up with a longer hook than in normal crochet. It's worked back and forth in rows, called forward and return passes, and the end result is a crocheted fabric that is a little less elastic than a normal crocheted result. The resulting design is thick and plush, which means that it's perfect for heavier items like winter items, pillows and afghans, like this Tunisian crochet baby blanket, and not ideal for finer works, like baby clothing or socks. Tunisian crochet can be a little tricky to master since you don't turn your work as you go, but once you get the hang of it, you'll find it's really not that hard (and is actually a little faster than regular crochet.
