Beginner Crochet Baby Afghan

If you've been wondering how to crochet a blanket, this free crocheted afghan is a great pattern to start with. Four squares of each color are needed and it measures approximately 26 by 33.5 inches when complete.

GAUGE
14 half double crochet + 8 rows = 4 in. (10 cm).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
SQUARES (make 4 in each color)
Chain 24.
Row 1: Half double crochet in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain across – 22 stitches.
Rows 2-13: Chain 2, turn, half double crochet in each stitch across.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Following diagram, sew Squares together. Weave in ends.
