These mitts are perfect for everyone in the family. From dad, to mom, to brothers and sisters. If they don't want fingerless gloves then they can opt for these type. Just remove them when necessary. Exciting in different colors.

Today looks like the day for mitten and glove patterns of all styles, shapes, and sizes. It is the perfect time of the year for it too. I love that there is such a variety of items on your site and many of them, like this one, has the complete pattern shown here instead of going to an outside link.

ok, the pattern was easy to follow, but I only did one of the hands because changing colors for every row was a bear to finish. I spent a long time weaving in all the loose ends, is there an easier way to do this?

Yes, this is the most time consuming part of any project. I feel you. You could weave them in as you work by working over the loose end and concealing it with the next row of work or bypass the stripes and use only one solid color. )

These look really easy and fun. I have never crocheted mittens before, they have always been knitted. Also, like the fact that there is no left or right hand which simplifies matters considerably. I am off to my stash to see if I can't start a pair of these tonight.

This pattern was easy and fun!

I am to the "upper hand" on the child's mitten. I'm not sure which directions to follow. Do I jump down to child's mitten or do I crochet 8 rows first?

This pattern seemed easy but when I got to the tip of fingers still had a hole. Not sure what I did wrong.

how did you solve this problem. I can't figure out how to do Step 9 in the Upper hand directions. Can you explain to me how you understand it.

Hi arleenadc, This is a Red Heart pattern, so if you're still having trouble, I would suggest going to them or their customer service and see what suggestions they have for you. :) Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

wonderful easy pattern that I have used many times to make mittens to match hats that I've made and to give as gift sets! I was surprised when I found how easy it was! I had heard horror stories about mittens, but I was successful my first try with this pattern!

tried to add a photo, but don't see it. Sorry. #BestIdeaEver

What pattern did you use for these gloves. Would love to make these

This is one of the easiest mitten patterns I have found yet! It's the first one I was brave enough to attempt to try and I have made untold pairs of mittens since with success! It's also very adaptable to the popular fingerless mitt craze by simply leaving off the thumb and stopping the hand at whatever point you want! I have made them for friends who wanted them to go all the way to the elbow in the fingerless style all the way to the infant thumbless mittens... this is truly the one pattern for everything once you have this basic down!

Thank you for such an honest review of this pattern! I've been searching for a basic mitten pattern, so I could make pairs for the whole family! This looks like the perfect pattern to customize with your own colors, stripes, or even add a tiny bow or other accessory to the wrist for fun. Was there any part of the pattern that was tricky? Many of the mitten patterns I've tried start out simple and get too complicated so I end up trashing the project.

Love this pattern. Easy to adjust

hey!!! i love the mitts i use this pattern all the time. but i always make kids. i am making mens right now and i find a part that confuses me. for mens the wrist is 24 rows around, and when sl around, it says to sl 26times. is this correct are we to 2sl in one spot? thanks love

I would like to make these mittens for granddaughters. BUT when instructions say 1 skein each, do they mean each mitten? or each pair of mittens? ALSO, I read that different kinds of yarn skeins can vary in yardage and if you don't know how many yards of yarn you need you could easily run into trouble by running short. So, how many yards per skein are you talking about? Thanks in advance.

One skein will make a pair of these mittens! I use the Red Heart Super Saver yarns and usually have enough left from a skein to make a medium width scarf when I've made ladies or especially the childrens sized mittens. The RHSS is usually a 364 yd. skein for solid colors, 236 yd. for variegated colors. If I use the variegated for a pair of mittens I won't have enough for a scarf as well but I will have enough for a full pair of mittens.

I never croched mittens before but I am going to make those mittens. I crochet afghans, shawls, etc. Thanks s for the pattern.

I am not very experienced in crochet. I have been playing with yarn since I was a small child but never really got into crochet till recently. My granddaughter came for a visit and I wanted to make her something so I chose mittens. This pattern was easy to read, interpret and crochet. I made one change in the pattern though. When starting the hand portion, after doing round one, I added one row of sc in each stitch to help give me a base to work with. Then I continued on with round 2. This worked great for me. Rhonda

I am a total beginner at crocheting and decided to tackle these for my boyfriend! The pattern was super easy to read and the mittens turned out fantastic. Thank you!

Have been trying to, locate a crochet mitten pattern for the family. Lost mine. They are made with a single crochet going in the length of the mitten, not in rounds, If so one could help me, I will be so ever grateful Betty

I am looking for the same pattern. I also lost the one I had. This pattern is made in one piece, with a long wrist, and then folded in half and sewn together. It was the easiest and best mitten I ever made. Please let me know if you have gotten the pattern

I would also like this pattern..does anyone have it?

I would also be interested in this pattern. Has anyone been able to find it?

Thank you for this pattern. Directions are clear and I am looking forward to making a pair. I may even include a pair with each scarf I am making for Christmas gifts.

This is terrific. I am crocheting a scarf and decided to make mittens as well. I believe your pattern will do the trick for me. thank you

Is the child's mittens for like a toddler or a ten-year old? I'm trying to make them for a family and they have a two-year-old, so I wanted to know.

Hi there, the child's mittens are for a 4 or 5 year old child.

I am having a bit of trouble with this pattern. Can anyone give me a hand please?

This pattern does not give the beginning chain.

I found the exact pattern at redheart.com. The instructions are easier. http://www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/WR2166_ == 0.pdf

I wanted to print the pattern so I could make at least one pair of mittens for charity. After at least 15 minutes I still ccan't prilnt the pattern. I cannot sit in front of my computer to crochet

I made these and i LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM although i used the rows for the cuff of the mens because i wanted them longer, everything else i did according to the womens, except that i shortened the hand and the thumb a bit to fit my hand.... these were so easy and so wonderful to make.... I had a LOT of fun making these and my friends have had allot of fun trying them on LOLOL

sorry for typo-s... using mobile device

i have not made these yet. however, i did print the instructions without trouble. i have crochets many afghans and baby blankets.... some wrist warmers. Now i would like to try these mittens.... i have finding the instructions a little lacking... example: when making the cuff... instructions read "fold in half and join ends with slip st to form cuff. do not fasten off" ... and no where do the instructions indicate to finish off the cuff... so i should assume to slip stitch thru all ends to form the cuff? will add more comments as i work thru the pattern. my point is, if it is marked BEGINNER, and it is not clear to me. i cannot imagine a beginner using it. Am i missing something?

I have a program called SnagIt. I wanted to print out these instructions too as I haven't knitted/crocheted in almost 30 years, so my skills are gone. No print button. So I used Snagit to capture the page, selected only the portion I needed, and printed THAT out. I think SnagIt has a free trial. If not, just use your screen capture and print that out, that is free but unless you can edit you will get all the other stuff on the page. Hope this helps someone.

Love the pattern! I'm off to a great start; easy to follow instructions.

There's always a SAVE button...but not on this one.

Instructions and line counts are way off! Torn out twice...not happy.

can't print pattern even thru Red Heart, found several like this, very frustrating

Pupsmom, Can you copy and paste it to Word or your email, then print it?

What is the yarn length / weight for another yarn as we don't have red heart in UK so a skein of ... Tells me nothing. What is the comparable weight/lengths for DK which is US worsted weight I think. Thanks.

is if about a 4 hope this helps

Red heart is a worsted weight or 4. It is 100% acrylic and generally comes in a skein of 364 yards for a solid color and around 278 yards for a variegated yarn. I hope this helps!

what next step are you referring to in step5 of the hand? 8? 9? The upper hand? What?? This isn't all that easy.

It says (Next Step).

Looks pretty easy

I really liked this pattern and have made two sets so far this week!! I even revamped it into cute fingerless mittens. The Grandkids are loving them. I am an avid crochet person and I needed to drop down to an H hook instead of the I. Best of luck to those who try this patterns. You will be happy with the results.

I could not get the pattern even when I saved it.

I am sorry. You can go straight to www.redheart.com and go to patterns. Search mittens . It is located near the bottom. Or you can try this link. I hope one or the other works for you. http://www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/WR2166_0.pdf
