Midnight Magic Shawl
The Midnight Magic Shawl is a quick and easy shawl pattern to complete. The delicate and lightweight design makes it the perfect pattern to wear any time of the day. It's a versatile clothing item that can be work to the office or out to dinner. Boutique Midnight yarn is used to complete this free Red Heart pattern. A hint of sparkle adds a unique element to this design and definitely sets it apart from other crocheted shawls.
Crochet HookI/9 or 5.5 mm hook
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
MATERIALS:
- RED HEART® Boutique Midnight®: 5 balls 9803 Borealis
- Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9]
- Yarn needle
SIZE: Shawl measures 18” [45.5cm] wide x 52” [132cm] long
GAUGE: Gauge is not important for this project.
SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
Fsc (foundation single crochet) =
First St: Ch 2, insert hook under top 2 strands of first ch, yo, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 1 loop, yo, draw through both loops (first fsc complete).
Remaining sts: Insert hook under both loops of previous st, yo, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 1 loop, yo, draw through both loops.
SHAWL
Row 1 (Right Side): Work 155 Fsc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 2 sc, *ch 7, skip next 4 sc, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * to last 6 sts, ch 7, skip next 4 sc, sc next 2 sc – 22 Arches.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 2 sc, *7 sc in next ch-7 space, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * to last ch-7 space, 7 sc in last ch-7 space, sc in next 2 sc.
Row 4: Ch 7 (counts as tr and ch 3), skip next 4 sc, sc in next 3 sc, *ch 7, skip next 7 sc, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * to last 4 sc, ch 3, skip next 3 sc, tr in last sc.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in tr, 3 sc in ch-3 space, sc in next 3 sc, *7 sc in ch-7 space, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * to last ch-3 space, 3 sc in ch-3 space, sc in 4th ch of ch-7.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 2 sc, *ch 7, skip next 7 sc, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * to last 9 sc, ch 7, skip next 7 sc, sc in last 2 sc. Repeat Rows 3-6 for 8 times, then Rows 3-5 once.
Edging Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 2 sc, *ch 4, skip next 7 sc, sc in next 3 sc sts; repeat from * across to last 9 sc, ch 4, skip next 7 sc, sc in next 2 sc.

Does Red Heart offer this yarn anymore? I ask because in all my travels around the city, I have not come across this one before. But then again, maybe it is a yarn that I normally do not search for. I am so into wraps this year. Well, in 2017 that is. I see no reason why I should stop now! This is stunningly beautiful over an otherwise plain tunic.

I just learned how to do a fsc and the instructions in the pattern here are good as well. It looks like a basic shawl. I wish there was a photo though. I think a yarn with a bit of glitter is the best way to go. It brings out the pattern and will look stylish. Thank you. I will just have to wing it without a photo.

Oh I love quick and easy patterns like this one! I also dont have the exact yarn but have some gorgeous midnight blue/deep violet extremely soft yarn (Aran weight) that I think will work like a charm. Does anyone know if it HAS to be a stiffish yarn for the pattern to turn out all right?

is there any way you can video tape how to make this, or post pictures? I don't have the magical yarn but I have sashay that should work well with this pattern. Don't you think? Sue
