Midnight Magic Afghan

After reading stories about wizards and vampires, kids will want to crawl under the Midnight Magic Afghan. Dark-toned yarns set the mood with this crochet afghan pattern. Make one for your child or favorite niece or nephew. This crochet granny square afghan can use horizontal or diagonal joining, so depending on your preference, you'll need to crochet a certain number of granny squares. Choose a self-striping yarn, as suggested, for a mosaic of colors, or choose a variety of colors and crochet a number of different colored squares.

If anything made me want to dust off my granny square skills that I put away some time ago it might be this pattern with a similar yarn. I see that the yarn originally suggested has been discontinued. Has anyone made this up in a comparable yarn? Would Red Heart Unforgettable Boutique yarn in the Gossamer color be a good substitute?

What a wonderful way to use classic Granny Squares. This afghan is assembled on the diagonal rather than the usual stripes. The designer warns that the suggested yarn is thinner than standard worsted, so take that into consideration. Obviously, if you use worsted, there will be a slight size difference. There are actually two videos with this projectone for the granny squares alone and one for this project itself.

There is a specific yarn that she used to make all of these randomly styled granny squares?!! And without changing colors and weaving in a millions ends? That is pretty amazing. I have got to get my hands on this yarn and try this out myself. A unique and different take on a classic granny square blanket is the fact that she joined them all together in a diagonal/zigzag fashion. I like this a lot!

Such beautiful colors lending beautiful new life to ordinary retro design granny squares! As soon as I saw this pattern I thought of Oliver, my nephew, who is going to absolutely love an afghan in funky colors like this especially as his Dad has one that my mother crocheted way back in the 1960s and is still being used.

I like the way the mosaic yarn colours blend together. Very pretty. Yes, these are granny squares, but a lot of things are made with granny squares and each of those projects have their own name. I am not sure why people have chosen to complain about it. I like the way the squares are joined diagonally, with raised edges to form a large grid. It helps to give the blanket an artistic look. I also like the name and reason for the name. Kids love things that are fun. So why not give it a fun name that lets them feel like they are on an adventure!

This Midnight magic blanket may be good for children. Perhaps instead of the night light or leaving their bedroom door open, their blanket may give a soft glow to help them go to sleep.

Midnight magic because the color choice is dark but there is something like a blue color which appears like glow in the dark. Here's the link to the pattern http//thecrochetcrowd.com/midnight-magic-granny-af == ghan-2/

I think it's beautiful and I definitely see midnight in it. and granny squares are never tired

I wouldn't be too critical. I think it is wonderful that Michael was nice enough to submit! Thanks Michael! I think it is pretty!

I don't understand how giving the afghan pattern an intriguing name that makes one look at the site makes it any different than the the same tired granny afghan pattern.

Exactly. Different color, same pattern. Different name doesn't make it any more interesting to make.

Personally, I think its nice to be able to SEE the way the colors play out before starting a project so I appreciate the post. I'll agree that I'm not fond of this color combo but colorful fantasy afghan, exact same pattern and same yarn just different colors, is quite lovely.
