This pattern once again reminds me that handicraft really is an international language! I'm so thankful that allfreecrochet.com includes patterns from folks from countries other than the U.S. I think we'd miss out on soooo much if they didn't. This swallowtail butterfly is absolutely stunning! So fun that the artisan showed us the display she'd created from the different species. Also great for her to have given us the chart and written directions!

Ive already worked up the butterfly in several different colors as accents to some Spring hats. Dont you just love the faux collection in the shadow box? What a wonderful accent for a room or gift for a tenderhearted nature lover who really doesnt want to pin real butterflies? Now Im thinking about working some spectacular large examples for individual presentation boxes, too.

What a beautiful and awesome butterfly. Such a lovely shade of red that this model one is made of. I have made a pdf of this pattern because I know that I will be making some of these to add to my silk flower arrangements. I may make a few extras too to have on hand for a quick little gift.

What a pretty applique pattern! I love the variations the designer has displayed on her web page. It really shows the possibilities of the pattern. You could make embellishments for almost anything with this one. They would be pretty as decorations on gifts, plants, curtains, etc too. You could even glue a magnet to the underside and use them on your refrigerator.

This is just breath taking. I can use it on a lot of things. Not only do I sell my crochet items but I make jewelry too. I can see this on one of my long necklaces. Add a few seed beads and it will glitter. Also would nice a pretty brooch or on one of my purses. And done in self shading or ombr thread it would be fantastic.

Gorgeous! I saw all the variations on colors the blogger did on these butterflies and each one is beautiful! I have lots of inspiration. I didn't know there was a difference in English and U.S. stitches and I have been crocheting for years. All this time I've been making a double when in U.S. terms that is a single crochet! I suppose you could do it that way too, you'll just end up with a larger sized butterfly.

Oh how I love this pattern for the Ruby Red Butterfly. After reading and downloading the pattern I see that it is well written and easy enough to follow. I like the fact that she added a chart to help. I can't wait to get started on making these. I would love to know how Karo's wire butterfly came out? Thank you for this free pattern.

Thank you, Megan. I'm going to try this pattern with wire. I'll let you know how it turns out. k
