Not only is this colorful caterpillar a toy but it could easily double as decor in the baby room. I can easily see a baby or a toddler using this as the primary pillow in bed or just something to lay down on. Thank you for the free pattern.

Until I read the directions, I though that this was made from individual orbs sewn together. This pattern calls for six sections but I am sure if you wanted, it could be shortened or lengthen as desired. Great baby shower gift to give the the children's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Looks so soft and it is very colorful. This would make an excellent baby shower gift or even a gift for a first birthday. The yarn used in the example picture would have been the perfect one for the project. Too bad it was recalled, but safety first when it comes to our precious little ones.

Kids love colorful caterpillar toys whether crocheted, knitted or sewn from fabric. I like this particular crocheted one as it will give me a chance to use up various yarns that were stored away waiting for a project like this one. This caterpillar would make for great TV watching since it can curl up into a pillow like form.

This pattern is adorable and it is relatively easy, with just one minor tweak. I replaced the sew on googly eyes, and just made a simple "X" with yarn for eyes. Maybe I'm over protective about choking hazards. Other than that, the pattern works up quick and easy, and is a great break from the usual teddy bear.

So if Im understanding the pattern correctly, youre basically making a long tube of single crochet in various colors, stuffing it, and then delineating the different sections by tying around some yarn. I might use a smaller yarn for a smaller toy instead of replacing the recalled Bernat with another bulky yarn. I also think doing a length of tight chain might be better than plain yarn to tie off the sectionsless chance of breakage.

Is there a video of this project available? I am new at crocheting and I am having some difficulty following the pattern, especially the last portion 10

Hi cbashiruddin, I'm sorry, we do not have a video for this project. I would suggest contacting the company who created this pattern, Bernat, and see if they have any suggestions. You can also post your question to our Facebook wall and see if any other friendly crocheters can help you out. Thanks! Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

Rattling my brain for so long to try and figure out what I'll make for my unborn godson and this falls right into my lap ! I thought it was such an adorable pattern and it turned out so much better than I had expected ! I read one of the above comments and one lady added jingle bells to the fiberfill and I'm in love with it more to say the least !! It instead of googly eyes I used safety eyes (teddy bear eyes) Just to ensure that the little one won't have any choking hazards while playing. Over all it's a great pattern and awesome gift idea for baby showers !

How cute is this Colorful Caterpillar Toy. The pattern is well written and the grand kids will love it. I want to make a few of them, I think this would be a cute idea to use as a door air blocker in the winter months. The colors look great together. Thank you for this cute toy pattern.

I use pip squeak yarn. It's great. I made a few adjustments to this pattern. First the yarn, then I added some of those jingle bells in with the stuffing so it would rattle. I put them inside those plastic Easter eggs and hit glued the egg shut so they would come out. The eyes were replaced with safety eyes. I now have a child safe toy.

http//www.yarnspirations.com/tizzyrecall/ The TIZZY yarn is part of a recall. DO NOT USE!!! 2015

nokyheart - thank you for your concern. We have made a note of this recall and suggested a different yarn to use for this pattern. Happy crocheting! - Editor of AllFreeCrochet.com

I am trying to see if each section is just 9 rounds or is it 18 rounds? I have not finished yet and each section seems a bit too short. The pattern says to repeat 11th rnd 9 times. Does that include 11th and 12th rnd ? If someone can clarify I would greatly appreciate it.

Marlwool 1 I right klickedon my mouse the pressed print or save as and put into a folder for later use. I hope this works for you

I would highly recommend NOT using the googly eyes that are sewn on. For any child 3 and under these are a choking hazard. Instead, crochet, cross-stitch, or embroider some eyes in place. It will be a much safer toy for the young ones.

I did that too I just crocheted 2 ch and hdc in the middle in until i got to the end when it was round i fasted off and made 2 of them .
